Set up your device

Charge it up

Plug the included cable into the port on the side of the gate. A full charge runs about six hours of play.

Use the included cable with a standard USB‑A charger (the rectangular plug, like most phone chargers). A USB‑C to USB‑C cable will not charge the gate.

Get the app

The LagKing app is included with your gate. No subscription fee.

Create your account with Apple or Google sign‑in. Your putts save to your phone; an account adds friends, challenges, and leaderboards.

Power on and pair

Press the power button on the gate. The light glows red while it waits for your phone. Open the app, tap Scan, and choose your gate. With the current app and gate firmware, the light turns green when a game is accepting putts and the gate is ready, not just when it connects.

After the first time, the app reconnects to your gate automatically whenever you open it.

Input Surface and Green

In Settings, set two speeds. My Surface is the mat or green you are actually putting on: pick a preset or dial it in, and standard putting mats are around stimp 10.5.

Projection Green is the green your putts are projected onto: it matches your surface until you change it, so set it faster or slower to practice for the greens you actually play.

Both speeds live in Settings. The line underneath shows what the difference does to your numbers.
So what is a real green? Everyday public course: about 8 to 9. Well kept private course: 10 to 11. Tournament setup: 12 to 13. Worth knowing before you set it: a typical putting mat at 10.5 is faster than most courses you will actually play, so a putt that feels perfect on the mat tends to run long on grass. Pointing Projection Green at the course you really play is the whole idea.

Line it up

The gate measures your start line relative to itself, so square the gate to your intended line. On a mat with a line, set your ball on the line and use the included alignment jig: seat the gate against the jig and it is lined up in one motion.

No line on your surface? Snap a chalk line from your ball position through the middle of the gate, or lay painter's tape where your ball starts and along the front of the gate. Ball, line, and gate all pointing at the same target.

Putt

Place your ball 2 feet from the middle of the gate and putt straight through it. The app shows speed, start line, and how far the putt would have rolled.

Rules of thumb: enter from the front (the side closer to you), roll it smooth with no chips or jabs, keep the gate flat, and leave it in place mid‑session.

What the light means

No screen, no menus. The color is the indicator.

Red

Powered on, not paired. Open the app to connect.

Green

Paired and ready to putt.

Solid blue

Not ready for the next putt: the gate may be recovering, cooling down, or waiting for your turn. Wait for green before putting.

Blue flash every few seconds

The gate is sleeping. Starting a game wakes it automatically with the current app and gate firmware. Wait for green before putting.

Pulsing

Low battery, layered on top of any color. A rapid pulse means charge now.

Red flashes

Error code. Count the blinks, then check Device Errors in the app's Settings.

Light off after a long break? The gate powers down fully to protect the battery. Press the power button off, then press it again to wake it.
Make it yours. Light too bright? Dim it in the app's Settings. The post‑putt cooldown and sleep timers live in Settings under Battery Management.

Two tabs cover it: Target for focused practice, Challenge for games, friends, and leaderboards.

Pick a distance, or let the app pick, and see exactly how close every putt landed. The fastest way to sharpen your lag.

Send a challenge to a friend and settle it putt for putt, even from different living rooms.

King of the HillMONTHLY

A five‑hole course that stays all month, one putt per hole, and one attempt a day. Learn the holes, then spend your attempt. Lowest total distance of the month holds the crown.

A practice routine

Not required, and there is no wrong way to use the gate. If you want somewhere to start, this takes about fifteen minutes.

  • Warm up. Five putts in Target at 15 feet. No score, no pressure. Let your stroke wake up.
  • Distance ladder. Target at 20, 30 and 40 feet, five putts each. Watch the projected roll out, not where the ball stopped on your mat. This is the part a mat on its own cannot teach you.
  • Start line. Ten putts from one distance. Forget the roll out and chase PURE. A repeatable start line is the part of your stroke you can genuinely groove, and the gate is the only thing in the room that can see it.
  • Finish under pressure. One Daily Challenge, or a round of Sim 9. Putt while you are a little tired and a little invested. That is when your stroke tells you the truth.
Once a week, change one thing. Set your Projection Green to the course you are playing that weekend and run the ladder again. Same stroke, very different numbers. That is an adjustment you would otherwise only make on the first three holes.

Put it on the big screen

The best LagKing experience is your phone or tablet cast to a TV. The 3D green fills the room, and everyone can sweat the putt with you.

  • iPhone or iPad: open Control Center and tap Screen Mirroring, then pick your TV.
  • Android: open Quick Settings and tap Cast (some phones call it Smart View), then pick your TV.
  • Turn your device sideways. Game modes play in landscape, so the mirrored picture fills the TV.

Add friends

Friend codes

  • Open the Profile tab and tap Friend Code in the Friends section.
  • Tap Generate code to get a 6‑character code, then hit Share to send it any way you like.
  • Got a code from a friend? Enter it on the same screen.
  • Codes are single use and expire after 24 hours. Generate a fresh one any time.
  • Once you are friends you can send head‑to‑head challenges, compare stats, and meet on the leaderboards.

Care and charging

  • Recharge with the included cable from any USB‑A charger. About six hours of play per charge.
  • Keep it dry. The gate is not waterproof: no putting in the rain, and bring it in off wet grass.
  • Do not leave it in a hot car. Heat is harder on it than putts are.
  • Wipe clean with a dry cloth. Nothing wet, nothing abrasive.
  • Updates come through the app. When a gate update is available the app offers it. Keep the gate charged and your phone nearby while it installs.

Troubleshooting

  • A putt did not register. Check the light is green, the ball entered from the front, and it rolled clean through the middle of the gate.
  • Ball clipped the gate? It comes back on its own. The light turns green again once it is ready.
  • Light stuck red. Open the app and tap Scan. Still stuck? Power the gate off and on.
  • Seems dead. Charge it with the included cable and a USB‑A charger, then press the power button off and on again.

Battery and charging safety

This product contains a DNK‑114960 rechargeable lithium‑ion polymer battery rated 3.7 V, 4000 mAh, 14.8 Wh. Charge only from an appropriate 5 V source using the included USB-A-to-USB-C cable. A USB-C-to-USB-C cable will not charge this product.

Do not puncture, crush, open, or burn the battery, and keep the device away from excessive heat and water. Stop using and charging it if it is damaged, unusually hot, leaking, or swollen.

At end of life, do not put the device or its battery in household trash or curbside recycling, and do not burn it. The battery comes out for recycling: with the device switched off and unplugged, open the case with a T8 Torx screwdriver, unplug the battery at its connector, and lift it out. Take the battery to a battery drop‑off point (find one at batterynetwork.org/locator) and the rest of the device to an electronics recycler. If the battery is damaged, swollen, or leaking, do not remove it; email support@lagking.com instead.
